A calm banana who loves neon zebra patterns and goes by the name of Rachael Furn.
I enjoyed talking to her about how she uses her Mac. Rachael told me about an application called Smultron which she uses for web development. Smultron is a text editor written in Cocoa for Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 which is designed to be both easy to use and powerful. I may have to have a look at it myself even though I prefer to use WordPress to make my web sites, mind you having said that Rachael is rather fond of Wordpress too. She has admitted publicly that she enjoys long conversations about the merits of Wordpress.
Rachael giggled her way through the interview and you just can’t help but like her. she plays Alto Saxophone in Brackley Wind Ensemble. They do a kick arse Pirates of the Caribbean medley. Also trying to teach herself bass. She is into photography and likes to get down and dirty with creative stuff.

What was so great about talking with Karen was that she is into so many things, like myself she can't stop herself being interested in a variety of interests. She has published a book called Painting for Photographers which is available now as an eBook and will be going into print very shortly. It is not her first book either, as karen has written a number of manuals for the Application Painter or PainterX. Karen also is an artist and amazingly like the same styles of art as myself too. Both of us really like the German expresionists, the surrealist and we both have an appreciation for the talent of Picasso. You really must have a look at her paintings at her web site. She is conveying a dream world as art and with them being in black and white it reminds me of the work by Giger the artist that created the creature in the movie Alien. Karen is having an exhibition this month of her art work and if you live near enough you are invited to go and have a look. Karen also writes screen plays for movies and has a script for a romantic comedy, where does she find the time to do all these things?

I use the deluxe hosting for $7.99 a month and have a number of my domains on the same hosting. It is a huge bargain where other hosting companies will let you only have one domain or perhaps two on a hosting and probably charge more for it too. Godaddy is for me the best place to get domains and I am happy to recommend it to you. If you put in the code POD146 when you get to the check out you will get 10% discount off your order. I tested that out and it works.

I waffle on about my new toy , a Drobo which is sitting on my desk now keeping my data safe. I have put in a couple of 1TB drives and have another pair of 500GB Drives to put in also. Mark has just bought a Drobo also and had put in 4 of 1TB drives. So he will have plenty of room for his video stuff with Final Cut Pro.

I was really pleased to get the chance to interview Mike Peter Reed so that he could tell me about the 2 week film challenge that he took part in. The idea was to make a film in the space of two weeks. In the next round there will probably more films made because they rules give more time to get things ready for the filming.
The three feature films were made during the first round of the Two Week Film Collective in May (and you can watch The Dabbler and The Original Soundtrack online for free by clicking their links):
- @thraveboy – “The Dabbler, The Dreamer, and the Man Who Broke The World”
- @britmic – “The Original Soundtrack”
- @lmcnelly – “blanc de blancs”
Some Mac web sites that Mike recommends
I was also interested in what Mike had to say about the recording of sound and the field recorder he has. He uses a Sound Devices 702T and I would be keen to get something like that for myself for doing more outside broadcast type of sound recording. Would be great to get my hands on a shotgun mic and the dead cat wind filter, all to fit on the end of a boom pole. I did get looking at a few different field mixers and it would be really difficult to decide which would be best to buy. There are field mixers and then there are field recorders. The recorder seems to do the mixing too. I think I need to learn more about how all these things work. Could spend quite a lot of money on this sort of equipment with lavalier mics, shotgun, mics, carbon fibre boom poles, various cables. the best I can manage now is a Zoom H2 or to record direct into my Macbook. I did make sure that I bought a camera that has a mic input.

Keith suggests some books in the podcast and I may well get them myself I would love to be able to write a Mac application. I still want to have a go at writing an iPhone application too. Books by Stephen Kochan Programming in Objective-C 2.0 (2nd Edition) (Developer's Library)
Talking about Scrivener
The idea behind Scrivener is that you write the long novel in chunks and you can use Scrivener to organise the whole thing. there are loads of ways of looking at the work. You can just concentrate on the small bit you are working on. You can see all of the small bits in an outline mode or you can see them on a corkboard view. Lots more information from Keith about Scrivener in the podcast. He changed to Mac and was looking for a decent laptop and was blown away by the iBook and the retail store experience helped him to make the decision to buy. I have a number of questions for Keith in the interview about how he uses his Mac and you can listen to the podcast to get more.
Win a copy of Scrivener
The question to answer is Is there something spooky in the Text MenuBusy time here but I managed to record a podcast. I would have done it with video for the Wizardgold News but went with audio because I started to record after the light was gone and I don't like the image you get when working with lights rather than natural light. Although if I was to use my video camera rather than the iSight camera I could have made some adjustments I suppose. Then again there are video adjustments possible in iMovie also. Any way the upshot is that I did it in audio only. I recorded and turned it into a podcast in Amadeus again. The second podcast all done in Amadeus and I like it. Slight different way of working that's all. I talk about using a service called Knowem to be able to quickly see where I have my user name out there. It checks about 120 sites and I can then click on to sign up at the various sites. Basically it is to profect my user name and identity so that no one else can register Wizardgold and use it nefariously. I see there will be a Facebook name thing happening this weekend also. Will you be getting your name registered. Will there be people doing bad things to try a bit of Facebook cyber squatting, I wonder. In the podcast I give a bit of news about the 20 Questions sites. If you would like to be featured in a podcast talking about whatever you fancy or more specific with the Photo20Q, Video20Q, Writers20Q, then contact me using the form below. Lets talk !! With the new 2.8 WordPress, last night I updated most of my sites. Only with one of them do I have a problem. The text is not showing up in the posts on the site yet are still there in the database. I have exported out the posts also to keep them safe while I do what I have to to sort the problem out. Weird that it only messed up on one of my sites. As I say in the podcast there will be no Round table meeting this evening. Mostly because of the fact I am working until 10pm and the rest is due to it seeming that it has all been done in the other podcasts. I listened to IMP, Mac OSKen and MacBreak Weekly and Vexed Tech podcasts and there is not much more to say. So I will stick to the Mac 20 Questions style of podcast which is about real users using the computer for real.
